Get a Head Start on Your Career

The radiology landscape has changed rapidly over the past few years and the pace of change will not subside any time soon. The breadth and scope of what you need to know and understand in order to succeed continues to expand significantly. While the current workforce shortage guarantees many job opportunities, early career physicians want to choose a job that closely aligns with their needs and expectations, so they don’t find themselves looking for another job again and again. With this workshop, RLI will get you prepared and armed to transition out of training, find the right job for you and embark on your career journey with enthusiasm and confidence towards long term success.

Designed for residents and fellows, this workshop offers the unique opportunity to learn through self-paced pre-recorded lectures as well as an interactive live webinar. Upon participating, residents will gain critical knowledge needed to make a confident choice about the right practice setting, effectively prepare for and perform well during the interview, understand what is expected of them in the first year out of training, and how to deal with difficult people and other challenging situations in the workplace. Residents will have a chance to practice their skills during the live webinar through real-world scenarios with guided support from leading experts in radiology. Additionally, those who attend may sign up for an exclusive, one-year mentorship program for personalized guidance as they prepare to transition out of residency and into the workforce.

The registration fee is $35 per resident. All physicians in approved radiology residency programs or fellowships in the U.S. and Canada are members of the 新澳门六合彩官网 and qualify for the Member-in-training (MIT) rate.

Kickstart Your Career Attendees: Transition Mentorship Program

Kickstart attendees are welcome to sign up for a mentor to assist in their transition from residency into fellowship/first radiology job. Registered attendees may complete an application to be matched with a mentor who has experience in the area of their interest!

What a Past Attendee Said of the Mentorship Program:
“In addition to the workshop, the 新澳门六合彩官网 RLI offers a follow-up mentorship program to continue these discussions longitudinally with a personally selected mentor – my favorite aspect of this experience. My mentor and I have been in touch regularly (via emails and Zoom), whereby she provides me with realistic expectations and honest answers in a way that has been therapeutic and motivational. At a time of quarantine and societal separation, I am immensely grateful to have had this opportunity to connect on such a deep and fulfilling level with discussions of ambitions and a brighter future.” - Michelle Roytman, MD, Neuroradiology Fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital (10/2020)

Headshot of Raffi Ourfalian 鈥淒uring the workshop they also held mock interviews, which was great practice for my virtual fellowship interviews. An added unexpected bonus for me was that during my actual Fellowship interviews I had a more thought-out and confident answer to the 鈥淲here do you see yourself in 5-10 years? Question. My interviewers were impressed by how much thought I鈥檝e put it into it... I would totally recommend this workshop to all trainees of all levels as well as those that are early in their attending career. I even plan on retaking the course before my job interviews to give me the best edge I can to land me the right job for me.鈥 -Raffi Ourfalian, DO, aPGY4/R3 - Chief Diagnostic Radiology Resident, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Medical Center

 Michelle Roytman, MD

鈥淟ed by experts in the field who are both experienced and approachable, the workshop encompasses critical topics not traditionally taught in residency, including effective communication, secrets for interview success, evaluating a job offer, assessing contract clauses, tips for personal financial success, mentoring, and professionalism. Attending this workshop 鈥 particularly at a time when these topics were most relevant to me 鈥 was influential in my ultimate decision for my first job. Hearing the unique perspectives of these leaders was enlightening and enriching, and having the opportunity to participate in interactive sessions with experts in the field provided me with personal insight I did not anticipate experiencing. I encourage radiologists at all stages of their career 鈥 budding and established 鈥 to engage in discussions regarding these nonclinical skills and incorporate them into their practice. Even with the best mentors, we must be our own advocates and it is never too early, or too late, to learn the skills to successfully do so. While there are many excellent approaches, I encourage you to consider the 新澳门六合彩官网 RLI Kickstart Your Career workshop firsthand. I certainly am grateful to have done so.鈥 -Michelle Roytman, MD, Neuroradiology Fellow at Weill Cornell Medicine/New York-Presbyterian Hospital Headshot of Michelle Roytman

鈥淭he talks were focused on equipping rising radiology professionals with the right tools to attack their dream positions鈥 The breadth of the advice was incredible, and the impact it made on me was substantial.鈥 - Olga Laur, MD, MHS, Brigham & Women's Hospital

Atheeth Hiremath, MD

Headshot of Atheeth Hiremath 鈥淔or me, one of the highlights of the event was the career panel where academic radiologists and private practice radiologists discussed their career paths. As one would suspect, it was the rare faculty member who knew exactly which career trajectory would become their final destination. Most faculty cited timely circumstances and influential mentors who guided their decisions. Hearing these varied experiences provided a relief to many residents, who at times feel they have to make an early and rigid decision about one pathway or the other.鈥 - Atheeth Hiremath, MD, past RLI Kickstart Your Career attendee, Maryland Radiological Society-RFS President, and a resident in the Department of Radiology at the University of Maryland

Nicholas Ferguson

鈥淎s a relatively fresh 4th year resident in my early 30鈥檚 just starting to hallucinate a life outside of the grind of training, I began to think about 鈥済etting a job,鈥 which, surprisingly, no one had ever really formally taught me about (after all, it鈥檚 not on the boards). After serendipitously coming across the 新澳门六合彩官网 Radiology Leadership Institute, I found out about the (virtual) 鈥淜ickstart Your Career鈥 Workshop, looked at the speakers/subjects and decided it would be worth [the time]. It was definitely worth every second I spent on it!鈥  - Nicholas Ferguson, PGY-5 Resident, Diagnostic Radiology, Loma Linda University Headshot of Nick Ferguson
