AIRP MSK Fellowship Training

Description

Founded in 1923, the 新澳门六合彩官网® is at the forefront of radiology evolution, representing nearly 40,000 radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists. We are seeking energetic and innovative individuals to further reinforce our core purpose of serving patients and society by empowering members to advance the practice, science and professions of radiological care.

If you share our core values of: Leadership • Integrity • Quality • Innovation, we want you on our team!

The mission of the 新澳门六合彩官网 Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP), sponsored by the 新澳门六合彩官网 (新澳门六合彩官网), is to deliver unequalled training to radiology residents, fellows, and practicing radiologists from around the world. The four-week Radiologic Pathology Correlation Course is designed to aid residents and fellows in their endeavors to achieve excellence in the technologically advancing specialty of radiology, by employing radiologic-pathologic correlation in the identification of disease. The course fulfills training requirements for more than 310 radiology residency programs.  The Radiologic Pathology Correlation Course is a comprehensive review of radiologic imaging with pathologic correlation providing more than 150 hours of didactic instruction and case seminars.

The Musculoskeletal Fellow positions are designed to provide additional experience for radiologists who have completed their training and an interest in academic radiology is encouraged. Educational, clinical and research activities are emphasized here at the AIRP.  The Musculoskeletal Fellow has the opportunity to review numerous correlated cases submitted to the AIRP by residents attending the Radiologic Pathology Courses. The study of the pathologic basis of abnormal radiologic images is enhanced through review of case material, didactic lectures, and intramural conferences in the AIRP.  The length of AIRP fellow is one year. Once completed by AIRP Fellows, the AIRP will award a certificate of completion stating “AIRP Fellow completed one year of training specializing in Musculoskeletal imaging”.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The applicant must have completed Medical School Education and obtained the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
  • The applicant must have completed or be enrolled in a U.S.-based and Accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency training program.
  • Strong interest in pursuing an academic career and a research background
  • The applicant must be a U.S. Citizen (but not a dual citizen). This requirement is in place to ensure that accepted fellowship applicant(s) will be able work clinically at one of our main clinical sites, which is located at a Military Hospital (Walter Reed).
  • The Ideal AIRP MSK Fellow has a robust clinical and research background, and intends to pursue a career as an academic radiologist; yet, by no means does this suggest that any other type of candidate will not be considered.

Clinical Training Offered

The Abdominal fellowship at the 新澳门六合彩官网 Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) includes a combination of abdominal and pelvic imaging as well as the unique perspective of learning that the imaging appearance of disease is based on the underlying pathology. Clinical work is performed at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD (3 days per week).

Clinical work focuses on MR interpretation, but the fellow will have the opportunity to interpret radiographs, CT and ultrasound exams as well. The fellow will participate in multiple interdisciplinary conferences, including gynecologic-oncology tumor board and urology conference. Finally, over 300 GU cases are submitted to the AIRP and are reviewed annually with the fellow. These cases are reviewed with our pathology colleagues at 1-2 conferences per week.

Fellows are expected to perform scholarly work and present their work at a national meeting (e.g. SAR, RSNA, and/or ARRS). Overall, the AIRP fellowship provides a well-rounded experience allowing transition to either private practice or academics with a unique exposure to the pathologic basis of abdominal disease.
