Missouri Expands Coverage for Breast Cancer Screening

Missouri’s Gov. Mike Parson signed bills and into law, expanding coverage for breast cancer screening. The laws will permit any woman to have:

  • An annual mammography exam deemed by a treating physician to have an above-average risk for breast cancer in accordance with the 新澳门六合彩官网® (新澳门六合彩官网®) guidelines for breast cancer screening;
  • Additional or supplemental imaging, such as breast magnetic resonance imaging or ultrasound, deemed medically necessary by a treating physician for proper breast cancer screening or evaluation in accordance with applicable 新澳门六合彩官网 guidelines; and
  • Ultrasound or magnetic resonance imaging services, if determined by a treating physician to be medically necessary for the screening or evaluation of breast cancer for any woman deemed by the treating physician to have an above-average risk for breast cancer in accordance with 新澳门六合彩官网 guidelines for breast cancer screening.

Recommendations are based on scientific evidence that breast cancer risk in young women is underestimated in the United States.

The laws are effective August 28, 2020.
