States Address Colorectal Cancer Screening, Out-of-Network Billing and Telehealth Bills

New Jersey introduces a bill expanding coverage of colorectal cancer screening. Rhode Island deliberates a bill modifying out-of-network billing provisions. Ohio enacts a law covering telehealth services.

Colorectal Cancer Screening

In New Jersey, was introduced and referred to the Senate Commerce Committee. If enacted, carriers would be required to cover colorectal cancer screenings recommended by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force. The bill also would eliminate cost-sharing requirements for a colonoscopy performed following a positive result on a colorectal cancer screening test.

The Radiological Society of New Jersey supports the bill.

Out-of-Network Billing

In Rhode Island, was heard before the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. If enacted, the bill would mandate carriers cover emergency services from an out-of-network provider at the in-network rate.

Telehealth

In Ohio, was enacted into law. The law requires carriers to reimburse a healthcare professional for a telehealth service that is covered under an enrollee’s plan.
